Overview

To illustrate the impact of the Promise Neighborhoods program's cradle-to-career approach, the U.S. Department of Education and the Center for the Study of Social Policy, developed a series of videos titled “Pipeline Profiles.” This video is the second in its series and highlights the work that the East Lubbock Promise Neighborhood is doing to strengthen partnerships between schools, the school district, and a higher education institution, while building out the K-12 segment of their cradle-to-career pipeline.

Addressing the Impact of Trauma on Academic Proficiency and Chronic Absenteeism

Overview

Exposure to a traumatic event places a young person at risk of: a lower reading proficiency, a lower grade-point average, and more days of school absences. Throughout their lifetimes, many young students living in underserved communities will experience one or more traumatic events-putting them at risk of chronic absenteeism and lower academic proficiency. Culture of Universal Achievement and Success: A White Paper on the Granger Turn Around Model™

Overview

This white paper by Robert Bleisch, M.A., Principal of Castle Park Middle School, explores the Granger Turnaround Model—a school-wide, research-based, data driven Response-to-Intervention model built on four very specific principles of intervention (Timely, Targeted, Directive, and Systematic) and three core systems of academic excellence (Mandatory Attendance System, Mandatory Behavior System, and Mandatory Academic Support System). These three systems of academic excellence are greater than the sum of their parts and together, synergistically, help neutralize many of the poverty related barriers that affect school campuses and prevent academic success.

Every Student Succeeds Act

The Every Student Succeeds Act is slated to replace No Child Left Behind as the latest reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). Section 4624 of the Every Student Succeeds Act ("the Act") authorizes the Promise Neighborhoods program. This brief summarizes the Promise Neighborhoods activities that are authorized under the Act.

Building the Capacity of Educators and Service Providers to Support Black Male Achievement

Overview

This webinar, hosted by the Promise Neighborhoods Institute at PolicyLink, lifts up professional development programs being implemented in Promise Neighborhoods to effectively promote the academic achievement of low-income children of color, with a focus on black boys and young men. 
 
The webinar focuses on the work the Northside Achievement Zone has done in partnership with the Innocence Classroom program to build the capacity of educators and service-providers to achieve results for black boys and young men and offers guidance for other communities interested conducting this work.
