Our communications trainings with CAFA (Community Action to Fight Asthma) helped coalitions frame their issues, increase public awareness and shape public opinion through media outreach, and create public pressure and increase support for policy change. Our advocacy toolkits provided in-depth information about the legislative and regulatory processes, and prepared coalitions to effectively communicate with policymakers.
A media campaign to build public will and support for grocery store legislation generated multiple stories, including ones in the The Fresno Bee and the online New York daily The Gotham Gazette and in industry publications such as Shelterforce, The Progressive Grocer, and Produce News. An op-ed “Toward healthier neighborhoods,” co-authored by PolicyLink and The California Endowment, was published in the San Francisco Chronicle. Our Healthy Food, Healthy Communities report was referenced in an op-ed in the San Jose Mercury News authored by San Jose community activists.
