Action-Oriented Resources
The PolicyLink Center for Infrastructure Equity undertakes research to shed light on critical infrastructure challenges facing regions and communities—and offers policy and implementation solutions to help overcome those challenges.
Safety, Growth, and Equity: Infrastructure Policies that Promote Opportunity and Inclusion, the first report in the PolicyLink infrastructure initiative, provides a framework for inclusion and equity issues in infrastructure planning, including seven principles of infrastructure equity. The report draws on experiences in California, Louisiana, and other states. The policy brief is a reminder that infrastructure is vital for sustaining and reinforcing community, and that decisions about it must be informed by the local residents directly affected.
Promising Practices reports, are web-based resources for equity advocates to use in their efforts to impact decisions about public investments in fi ve key infrastructure areas. In each of these reports, PolicyLink examines critical issues and highlights promising practices in research, organizing, advocacy, and program design used by community leaders and public offi cials in a wide range of cities and states:
Safety, Growth, and Equity: Transportation
Safety, Growth, and Equity: School Facilities
Safety, Growth, and Equity: Parks and Open Spaces
Safety, Growth, and Equity: Telecommunications Technology (to be published in early 2009)
Safety, Growth, and Equity: Water (to be published in early 2009)
The Equitable Development Toolkit, the continually updated and expanded online resource introduced by PolicyLink in 2002, includes several sections focused on infrastructure and the relationship between infrastructure and the development of affordable housing.
