This brief begins with a profile of who the immigrants are in this country, including major demographic changes in immigrant composition over the last few decades, and shifts in the places where immigrants are tending to settle in the twenty-first century. The brief goes on to place the immigrant integration opportunity in the broader context of a country that is changing in terms of its racial and ethnic make-up, economic structure, and civic institutions. The paper goes on to provide recommendations for local agencies to better incorporate diverse immigrant communities into planning and other processes that make our regions run.
