The National Black Latino Summit: Solidarity for America’s Future

The extraordinary grassroots participation in the 2008 Presidential campaign season provides the most convincing evidence to date of a shared political agenda in both African American and Latino communities.

PolicyLink and The William C. Velásquez Institute (WCVI) have formed a coalition to assemble a joint equity agenda for low income communities and communities of color. The National Black and Latino Summit in October 2008, was one result of this partnership. Hundreds of Latino and African American community organizers, youth leaders, elected officials, academics, business executives, and philanthropists gathered in Los Angeles to develop a platform for improving the health, education, environment, quality of jobs, immigration laws, and criminal justice system across the country.
