Sustainable Communities

PolicyLink applauds the leadership of these agencies for creating the framework and resources to address the great challenges facing our communities by planning for future communities of opportunity. Hundreds of PolicyLink equity-advocate partners weighed in with HUD on the guidance of this program. Their best practice expertise informed and helped establish strong equity-focused criteria for the program. ALERT: Please take a few minutes to urge Congress to fund the Sustainable Communities Initiative!

As early as Tuesday, April 17a key Senate subcommittee will vote to determine the future of the Sustainable Communities program at the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Please call, tweet, or facebook key Senate appropriators today before the looming vote and tell them to fully fund the Sustainable Communities program.

  1. If your own Senator is on this list, call, tweet, or facebook her or him first.
  2. Contact the Chair, Senator Murray.
  3. Contact the Ranking member, Senator Collins
  4. Post this call to action to Facebook and Twitter, or email to your networks so as many constituents as possible are calling their Senators.
  5. Call as many others on the list as possible.

What to tell Senate offices:

  • Fully fund the Sustainable Communities program at $100 million for the FY 2013 budget
  • We need to build healthy communities and strong regions with good jobs, housing, and transportation
  • The program brings private, public, and nonprofit sectors together to rebuild our economies
