Karen Camacho, Partnership for the Bay’s Future Fellow, works with the City of East Palo Alto, EPACANDO, and other local organizations to give tenants and community groups the opportunity to purchase currently affordable housing and develop a community land trust. Prior to this fellowship, Karen worked as an organizer at the Housing Leadership Council of San Mateo County, a nonprofit that works with communities and their leaders to produce and preserve quality affordable homes. Karen has an organizing and policy advocacy background in affordable housing, criminal justice, reproductive rights, immigrant rights, and gender equity issues. She is passionate about empowering marginalized communities and ensuring that low-income people of color have the tools they need to authentically create the changes they want to see in their communities. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master's in latin american studies from Stanford University. She enjoys reading social justice books and listening to mariachi music.
