Community food projects have been an important tool for changing the community food environment, and helping prevent food food-related disease epidemics such as diabetes and heart disease. Since 2011, the CDC's Community Transformation Grants program has supported American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, Hmong, Hispanic, black and many other communities doing this work through over $170 million in grants. Members of 3 distinct communities in Alaska, California and Massachusetts that were CTG recipients tell their stories of food systems change. They'll talk about success and challenges they face.
