These are busy times in the SNAP Employment and Training program. Many states are preparing to apply for federal funds to operate new and innovative E&T pilot programs. States are also revamping their existing E&T programs to help SNAP households gain or regain employment. And, some states are preparing work options for nondisabled childless adults who will begin (or have begun in some states) facing a three month limit to benefits. With this new attention comes both promise – high quality training opportunities and support in gaining and keeping a job – and peril – programs poorly matched to the needs of participants that lead to sanctions and the loss of food assistance. Community stakeholders and advocates can play an important role in shaping the conversation on SNAP E&T .
On this webinar, we will discuss how community stakeholders can engage with their state or local SNAP agency around employment and training, identifying key questions to ask and reviewing policy choices that states are considering.
