Democracy and Justice

Equitable cities are places where residents who have little money and power fully participate in city life and create their neighborhoods and the city. They also ensure just policing and court systems by ending the criminalization of communities of color and investing in prevention and restorative justice.

The tools below cover two strategies:

  1. Equitable Policymaking: Ensure all residents are protected from discrimination, have access to services, and can engage in city affairs through racial equity impact assessments and other tools.
  2. Community Safety and Justice: Stop racial profiling, increase police accountability, and end the excessive use of police force on people of color, reform inequitable municipal fine and fee collection.
