Lafayette Market, a 10,000 square-foot grocery store is set to open December 2012. It will offer fresh produce, a café, a fresh meat counter and more. Federal money from the Neighborhood Stabilization 2 and New Markets and Historic Tax Credit programs, as well as the Michigan Magnet Fund, state historic tax credits, brownfield tax credits and private lenders helped pay for the renovation of the building at North Saginaw and Lafayette.

Spartanburg City Council unanimously agreed to support the Healthy Food Hub on the city's north side by reallocating federal Community Development Block Grant funds and committing construction management expertise to the project. When complete, the farmers market will relocate there in addition to a garden, commercial kitchen and a cafe that will sell nutritious meals.
Supervisor Eric Mar introduces legislation to establish a Healthy Food Retailer Incentives Program. The purpose of this legislations is to increase access to healthy food; reduce unhealthy influences such as tobacco, alcohol and processed foods high in salt, fat and sugar in underserved parts of the City by providing incentives for existing corner and mom and pop stores.
